Weekend (Saturday) Training

Training for the 2006 season has started 2pm and will continue throughout the season. The location will be Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. As training starts at 2pm, you should plan to arrive 15 minutes prior.

Check for any last minute changes by checking the New York Mapgies Message Board.

How to get to Van Cortlandt Park via subway: Take the 1 subway north to the end (242 St); if you can, get on the first (front) car of the train. You can also take the A train to 168 st and transfer to the 1. Once you get off the subway walk north about 1/4 mile and you will see the park on the right side. Just look for others kicking a footy around. We typically practice in the southwest area of the park, but sometimes need to move a little further in so keep your eyes open. From 14th st, the train can take from 45-75 minutes, depending on various subway factors. Maintenance work on the subway occurs most weekends – check the Service Advisories before you travel!

How to get to Van Cortlandt Park via car: If you’re driving, take either the Deegan (I-87) or the Saw Mill/Henry Hudson Parkway. If you’re taking the Deegan, get off at the Van Cortland Park exit. At the exit ramp, head west and then make your first right on to Broadway – the park is about a quarter of a mile up on the right. If you are taking the Saw Mill, get off at the Broadway/Route 9 exit and head south about a quarter of a mile – the park is on your left.

Mid-week (Wednesday) Training

The location for mid-week training on Wednesdays is the Dustbowl in Central Park. As training starts between 6pm and 6.30pm.

How to get to Central Park North Dustbowl via subway: Enter at 97th st and 5th avenue. From the east side of the city, you can take the 6 train to 96th st and walk west to the park. From the west side of the city you can take the B, C, or 1 to 96th st then take the crosstown bus to the east side of the park.
