Express bus from Manhattan (preferred)

The only bus that runs from Manhattan to Staten Island on weekends is the X 1. The express bus costs $5 each way. You CANNOT use a regular unlimited Metrocard. You MUST use a pay per ride Metrocard that has at least $5 on it for each ride. The bus DOES NOT accept cash, but you can pay with $5 in COINS. You are advised to be prepared the day before as you may miss the bus if you try to do this the day of the trip.

The X 1 leaves from 3 spots in Manhattan:

6th Ave & Central Park SouthBroadway & 23rd St.Battery Place & Greenwich St.
9:35 AM9:54 AM10:11 AM
9:50 AM10:09 AM10:26 AM

Buses leave every 20 minutes onwards

As an example the 9:35 AM bus arrives at NEW DORP/HYLAN BLVD at 10:45 AM, the ride is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. It is probably a good idea to tell the driver to alert you of the New Dorp/Hylan Blvd stop since it may not be obvious.

Buses heading back to Manhattan basically leave New Dorp/Hylan Blvd every 15-20 minutes – TIMETABLE [PDF].

Once you leave the bus walk on New Dorp Lane behind the School and the fields should be obvious.

Ferry from Manhattan (alternative)

Take the subway ($2 per ride) number 1 to “South Ferry” station (last stop) or the 4 or 5 to “Bowling Green” station. Board the Staten Island Ferry (free) and bring your camera for some great photos.

On weekends ferries leave every hour on the half hour until noon and take 25 minutes to arrive on SI. At noon ferries operate every half hour on the hour and half hour, noon, 12:30 PM, 1 PM, 1:30 PM etc. The ferries follow the same schedule from SI to Manhattan – TIMETABLE [PDF].

Once you arrive at the SI ferry station take the S 78 bus ($2) to New Dorp Lane / Hylan Blvd. Buses leave every 15 minutes and the ride takes about 40 minutes – TIMETABLE [PDF].

Once you leave the bus walk on New Dorp Lane behind the School and the fields should be obvious.
