RESULTS — New York City Australian Football League (NYCAFL) 2007
Go to: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 5, Round 6, FINALS. NYCAFL FINALSPhotos (courtesy of Andy Marr) The Trash have secured another flag in a stunning performance against the fancied Hudson River Rats. The Tollmen won their 3rd consecutive premiership with a comfortable 3 goal win, 11.1 – 8.1. The lads won it out of the middle and finished off the Rats with great run and more superior fitness. The Rats started strong but the Trash used its speed and accuracy to put the game away. BOG for the match was none other than workhorse, Tim Buxton. Congrats Timmy! It was a great result for the Reds who are now clearly the No.1 team in the history of the NYCAFL. The other teams now must figure out what they have to do to catch this superb outfit. Congrats the TRASH!! James Polulach Scores
ROUND 6 – NYCAFLThe local NYCAFL regular season concluded this past weekend in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. The early game saw the Rats secure their first GF appearance in several years with a high scoring win over the Tourists who were playing for a GF spot after just missing out last year on the big one. The Rats have turned the tables upside down from last season after finishing bottom. It was goal for goal for a while before the Rats took control late in the game. In game 2, the hapless VB’s went through the season winless after losing to the Trash. The game started well for the VB’s but with a GF berth on the line for the Trash, they hit back and took control. The Purples gave a last minute yelp but it was well and truly over as the Trash now look ahead to another GF appearance. On July 14th in Ho Ho Kus, the Grand Final will be played between the Suburban Tollmen and the Hudson River Rats with 3rd place up for grabs between the VB's and the Tourists. Be sure to get their early as seats are filling fast!! James Polulach ROUND 5 – NYCAFLThe 5th Round of the NYCAFL was significant for a few reasons. Some teams needed to win to keep their GF hopes alive while another team just wanted to get in the win column. It was curtains on the 2007 season for the VB’s as they again went down, gallantly, to a Rats team playing in unfamiliar, but highly successful, jumpers due to a mix up at the cleaners. It was always going to be a tough ask for the lower Manhattanites as they were missing crucial players and just couldn’t stem the flood of goals by the visitors from over the river. The Rats had control for most of the game and cemented their spot on the top of the table with a comfortable win, their 4th of the season. Too many times players found themselves loose in attack for the Rats which showed that the VB’s just weren’t committed to the task but they still attacked with some entertaining goals. The VB’s remain in last place and again will look to 2008. Scores
In the second game, a highly entertaining encounter was provided by the Trash and the Tourists. The Tollmen were looking to exact revenge on the Yellow lads for a loss inflicted on them earlier in the season and the game looked all but gone at half time as the Midtowners lead by 4 goals but going against the breeze in the last half. Many were asking was it enough? Apparently not. The game got feisty in the 2nd half with a little scuffle between the teams which provided a turning point because from that moment on it was all Trash as they completed the comeback with a 9 goal 2nd half. Crisp disposal and discipline set the teams apart. Early on the Trash’s disposal was wasted and the Touro’s capitalized but when going with the wind, the Boroughs tightened up and took the game away to record a comfortable 3 goal win. The Trash now sit equal 2nd with the Tourists making Round 6 vital for both teams. Scores

ROUND 4 – NYCAFLThe scene was the Aviator Fields in Brooklyn for the return of the NYCAFL Round 4 clash. A great day welcomed the teams for a ding-dong battle of footy. The Trash welcomed back the prodigal (and blessed son) Timmy Buxton for the clash against the new league superpower, the Rats. The Rats struck early but the Trash hit back before the Blues took a half time lead. After half time it was all Trash as the goals flowed freely from the centre and overran their opponents. Not good signs for the rest of the comp when the Trash show this kind of form, form that have seen them go back to back. The Rats suffered their first loss but still sit atop the NYCAFL table. Scores
The late game showed the awesome skill and talent of the Tourists who took no mercy on the hapless VB’s who seem to have lost their way this year after playing off in the big one last season. The Yellows controlled the ball from the outset, moved it freely from end to end and scored at will. They recorded the highest winning margin for the year and gave the Purples more reason to look to next season. They lacked winners all over the ground and were soundly beaten although they didn’t lower their colors and kept at it all day. The Tourists sit equal top with the Rats while the VB’s remain bottom. ROUND 3 – NYCAFLPhotos (courtesy of Andy Marr) Round 3 of the NYCAFL shifted back to the tough turf of Hoboken to see 2 close and exciting games. The VB’s took on the undefeated Rats in the first game and looked to set the tone early and get their first points on the board. The game was tight for the duration before the Rats took the lead late in the game. A few chances went begging for the VB’s especially late as they surged forward to tie the match with only seconds left. A dropped mark in the goal square with heavy pressure applied by the Rats got the Jersey boys home in a classic contest. This loss was the VB’s 3rd of the season and roots them at the foot of the table while the Rats continue their winning ways. Scores
The 2nd match saw the Trash take on the Tourists. The Trash have had the wood on the Midtowners for the last few years but today that would all change. Helped with an influx of talent, the Yellow lads took it up to a depleted Trash side missing key players. However, the Trash held the lead late in another see-sawing match and controlled the contest for most of the day. Three late goals to the Tourists ensured they broke their Trash hoodoo. The loss was the first time in a while the Reds had lost 2 in a row and they will now have to win most if not all their remaining games to have a shot at the final. Scores

ROUND 2 ndash; NYCAFLPhotos (courtesy of Andy Marr) This week the boys of the NYCAFL headed to the devilish surface of Stevens Institute in Hoboken on a fairly warm day for footy to do battle in round 2 of the local league. The turf tape was out in force for the nancy boys who donned the patches and it may have done some good with plenty of bodies going to ground. Game 1 saw the Tourists open their win account vs the winless VB’s. The accurate boys in yellow never gave the purple’s a sniff in this one and ran out comfortable 3 goal winners. There were some good performances in this match, especially from American newcomer Matt ?. He showed his silky skills for the VB’s and will look to press for Magpies selection. Too bad his mates couldn’t follow suit. Game 2 saw the Rats take on the Trash in a fascinating game. The Rats blew out to a 7 goal lead at half time with some tremendous work in the middle through Mantzaris, Kimball and Jellie. However, the Rats got a scare from yours truly, Polulach, who began to read the ruck taps and clear the center time and time again. 6 straight goals later (4 to Polulach) saw the Rats panic as the Trash began to claw back. The spark the Trash started died down as they began to run out of juice and the Rats steadied, added on a few more goals and ran out comfortable winners. Scores
ROUND 1 – NYCAFLWelcome to the 2007 NYCAFL Football Season. The first round of the new look metro league, the NYCAFL, opened in the unfamiliar surroundings of Floyd Bennett Field at the Aviator Sports Complex in Marine Park, Brooklyn. A more forgiving surface greeted the players than at Stevens and a good day of footy was anticipated. The Rats, last year’s wooden spooners, took on the yellow guernsey’s from Tourist land. The game was extremely free flowing with many new faces taking part. The Tourists looked the goods until after half time when the contingent of their team decided to show. The teams were switched around a bit to accommodate the late comers and a close game erupted. The Rats, looking the early hot favorite for the flag, edged in front and held on for a 1 goal victory. In the late game, it was a grand final rematch, an SANFL-like Anzac day if you will, between the Trash and the VB’s. Again, new faces made up the teams but also some familiar ones, albeit, a little on the unfit side. The VB’s broke out of the gate early and held a slender lead at half time. But, just like in last years big game, the Trash, in their proud red jumpers, pushed past the tired VB’s with fresher legs to storm to a 20 point victory. Well done to all players that made the trek out to the new home of the NYCAFL and it was a superb artificial surface to do battle on. It was a great start to the 2007 footy season. Scores
