Outback Steakhouse – Metro League Round Six – July 29, 2006
Metro League Home, Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 5, Round 6, Finals METROLEAGUE ROUND 6 REPORT Game 1 – Village Bohemians vs Hudson River Rats The outcome of this game would have pretty much decided who would take on the Trash in the ML GF next week. With a full strength VB’s side and the Rats missing key players, it really was only a matter of time before the lower Manhattan boys ran away with it. The Rats started strong, kicking the first 2 goals but after that, it was all purple jumpers. The VB’s piled on the goals at will showing they want the GF berth up for grabs. They ran harder and used their skills better. The Rats made simple errors but it was clear they did not have the pace and desire to keep up with their opponents. However, its interesting to note that the Rats have had the most changes in personnel this season as they struggled to field a settled line up. The best players for the VB’s were Chris Murray and ruckman Brian Jackson who fed the runners brilliantly all day. For the Rats, Tom Thompson tried hard along with Adam Mantzaris. Scores: VB’s 16.2 98 def. Rats 6.1 37 Game 2 – Suburban Tollman vs Times Square Tourists Needing a big win to have a chance at making the ML GF next week, the Tourists started well against the Trash kicking the first goal. It was an arm wrestle in the first half, with both teams going in hard at the ball and many players sporting a few cuts and bruises from the hard surface. Neither team could break away in the first half with the biggest lead being 2 goals. Again, Matty Smith for the Tourists controlled half back but it was the skillful work of the Trash midfielders in Juice and Reuben Murray who were able to get the centre clearances. Big Dave Schultz for the Trash kicked truly and ended up with a couple of goals. Nick Molloy and Brett Lewis, showing glimpses of past greatness, worked tirelessly all day for the Touro’s. After half time and a few early goals to the Tourists, it was all Trash. BOG Tim Buxton bagged a lazy seven goals as the Trash took control and ran out 6 goal winners. In the searing heat, the Trash’s superior fitness ran over the top of the tired Tourists. Also fighting hard for the Trash was James Polulach and their ruckman Pat and for the Touro’s Darren ? and Arne Pulle. Scores: Suburban Tollman 14.0 84 def Times Square Tourists 8.3 51 Farewell to Shaun Gillespie who played his last game as a VB. Cheers Shauno! Until then, seeya at the footy! James Polulach. |
