METROLEAGUE ROUND 2 REPORT

Hudson River Rats 12-1-73 (Kimball 5, Dymond 2, Thompson, Ribaudo) defeated Times Square Tourists 7-0-42 (Lin 3, Magee, Lewis, Vonwiller, Lee)

In game one, the River Rats took control early thanks to a barrage of first half goals from Rats recruit Matt Kimball. Some great midfield running from Rats Toby Dymond and Tom Thompson opened up a great first half lead for the double R’s.

Coach Brett Lewis’ aim at goal was worse than a Nick Curtain pick-up going one-for-eight on the day. However, Lewis rallied his picture takers at the main break and they managed to put up a fight in the second half adding four goals down the final stretch thanks to the new and improved Walt Lin.

Village Bohemians 6-1-37 (Murray 2, Batty 2, Nicholls, Davies) defeated Suburban Tollmen 5-3-33 (Polulach 2, Schultz, Murray, Devine)

Game Two of Saturday’s double header saw the 2005 cellar dwellers Village Bohemian take on Jimmy Polulach’s mouth and the rest of the Suburban Tollmen. The first half belonged entirely to the VB’s who took a four-goal advantage into the break thanks to some creative scoring from rookies Shane Batty and Chris Murray.

The second half the Tollmen mounted a comeback, piling on three quick goals including a monster torpedo from Polulack himself and some great midfield play by Reuben ‘Christmas’ Murray. With Juice keeping #1 pick Shane Batty all ‘locked up’, team Ezpass made a good run at the game. Unfortunately, they ran out of time and the VB’s delivered their first win since 2004.

Round 3 of the New York City Metroleague will be held April 29 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Round 3 sees the Times Square Tourists taking on the outerboroughs- The Suburban Tollmen. In the other game, the Rats welcome back club founder Sam Ried for a celebrity appearance when they take on the in-form Village Bohemians.
