Outback Steakhouse – Metro League Round Two – April 9, 2005
Metro League Home, Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Finals METROLEAGUE ROUND 3 REPORT A packed house at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx saw the Surburban Tollmen take a convincing hold on the Outback Steakhouse Metroleague Championship with a Round 3 win over Brett Lewis and the Times Square Tourists. In the other game the Hudson River Rats won the Chardonay Challenge against the winless Village Bohemians. The Outback Steakhouse Metroleague Championship will be played on May 7 with the Tollmen once again facing the Tourists, while the River Rats will face the VB's for the 2006 Number One Draft Pick. Hudson River Rats 11-0-66 (Randell 5, Rowe 2, Smart 2, Carver, Lin) defeated Village Bohemians 1-2-8 (Gluck) In game one, the Rodents took control early thanks to some great running through the middle from Anthony Skinny Randell and Adam Manners. Veteran Kiwi Rat Col Smart took full advantage of his new fiancé sitting on the sidelines, kicking two through the big sticks, while Matt Rowe also added two for the double R's. Things seemed hopeless for the hapless Bohemians and Skipper Jarrad Crighton looked like he'd spent all week out East when nothing seemed to go right for the Village People, eventually going down by a Metroleague record ten goals. Suburban Tollmen 9-0-54 (Dixon 3, Desai 2, Devine 2, Clarke, Murray) defeated Times Square Tourists 3-0-18 (Lin 2, Steinfeld) Game Two of Saturday's double header saw both undefeated teams duke it out for the regular season Metroleague title. Team Ezpass took control from the opening bounce early thanks to some great work from midfielder Reuben Murray and Rookie Sensation Mike Dixon. The photo takers suffered a blow during the second term with Skipper and recruiting extrodinaire Brett Lewis pulling himself from the lineup. He did, however, manage to find Rat Superstar Adam Manners to pull on a gold jumper for the remainder of the game. The second half was once again all T-Men with Dixon kicking another sensational goal with running-mate Joey Dicepolo hanging off his back. Captain-Coach Shane Devine and Juice also added two for the Tollmen, who now look to be favorites for May 7's Outback Steakhouse Metroleague Championship Day. |
