Outback Steakhouse – Metro League Round Two – April 9, 2005
Metro League Home, Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Finals METROLEAGUE ROUND 2 REPORT Fans turned out in droves in sensational weather to witness Round 2 of the Outback Steakhouse Metroleague last Saturday. With the Tollmen and Tourists with two wins apiece it looks like they will be playing for the championship while the Rats and VB's will be playing for 2006 Draft choices. Suburban Tollmen 11-0-66 (Bedi 6, Dixon 2, Murray, Laube, Desai, Devine) defeated Village Bohemians 3-0-18 (Gluck 2, Kallhovd) In game one, the Tollmen took control early thanks to a barrage of goals from Jaideep 'Bish' Bedi. The second quarter also saw a phenomenal snap from second-gamer Mike Dixon who turned in another great effort for team Ezpass. With VB's Skipper Jarrad "Vinter" Crighten out of action, the reigns were handed to Pies founder Eric "Chucky" Kallhovd. However, during the second quarter Metroleague history was created when the VB's headed onto the park with eleven players. Problem was, the Metroleague Commissioners office had sanctioned the game at ten-a-side and the VB's goal tally of zero was wiped by umpire Brian Green. Bish collected his sixth major thanks to some creative work from veteran Kim Laube with a backhand tap to a wide open Bish in the square. With veteran Bruce "Bum Wiggles" Cameron and Captain Devine finishing strong, the Tollmen took their second consecutive win and are looking strong for the Outback Steakhouse Trophy. Times Square Tourists 8-1-49 (Discepola 2, Vonwiller 2, Mantzaris 2, Lin, Lewis) defeated Hudson River Rats 4-2-26 (Manners 2, Emken, Randell) Game Two of Saturday's double header saw the fully loaded Tourists taking on the depleted Hudson River Rats. The Tourists took a 3-0 lead in the first but two quick Double R goals in the second quarter gave the photo takers a 3-2 lead at the main break. During the third quarter the Tourists' veterans took control with Vonviller, Discepola and Mantzaris all adding majors. First gamer Nick Emken added one for the Rats but it was not enough to get the double R's back into the game. However, the Metroleague Commissioners office will be investigating the recruiting activities of Tourist Chief Brett Lewis. Somehow the Tourists started the game Saturday with seven experienced Australians and three Americans, including two Revolution players and the 2002 Magpies first-string ruckman. The media are linking the Tourists activities to the University of Colorado football program. |
