Outback Steakhouse – Metro League Round One – April 2, 2005
Metro League Home, Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Finals METROLEAGUE ROUND 1 REPORT Playing through a storm of biblical proportions, last Saturday's Metroleague Round 1 saw the Tollmen defeat the Rats and the Tourists embarrass the defending champion VB's. Suburban Tollmen 5-0-30 (Geoge 2, Lerch, Bish, Jackson) defeated Hudson River Rats 4-0-24 (Randell, Bridges, ??) In game one, the River Rats saw themselves two kicks down after five minutes of play thanks to some quick goals from the Outerboroughs. The Rats came back in the second term thanks to some great play from Skinny Randell and Matt Rowe and held a 3-2 advantage going into the main break. The second half was all team Ezpass with Gary 'China' Lerch evening up the scores at 4 goals apiece and then a great snap from 'Bish' gave the Tollmen the win. Times Square Tourists 5-0-30 (Steiner 3, Stienfeld, Dicepolo) defeated Village Bohemians 2-1-13 (McDonough, Gluck) Game Two of Saturday's double header was shortened due to hail and a mad-rush to visit Dr Gilberts. The "Battle of Manhattan" saw the Tourists having control from the start under the tutelage of the Number 1 Draft pick and captain-coach Brett Lewis. The game began with veteran Norman Steiner kicking his first in the opening minute and went on to kick two more majors for the photo-takers. The Touro's rubbed salt into the Artists wounds in the second period with a sensational soccer snap from Joey Dicepolo followed by a last minute goal from off-season acquisition Ben Stienfeld. |
