VB’s CROWNED OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE METROLEAGUE CHAMPIONS!

Championship Game- Suburban Tollmen vs Village Bohemians

Bohemians 10-0-60 defeated the Tollmen 3-0-18

The Outback Steakhouse Metroleague Championship Game was first game of the day and saw the Suburban Trash taking on the boys from the south of Manhattan.

Tollmen Incentives Manager Shane Devine raised the bar for the Championship game defying the salary cap and offering TWO jars of Vegemite for the Tollmen’s Best on Ground. However, Devine’s incentive was not enough as Christopher Street legends Gavin McLeod (four goals in the game) and Jarrod Creighton (three majors) started the game kicking five goals to one in the opening half.

During the second half, the VB’s continued their dominance kicking another five goals, with East All-Star selection Michael Gluck adding two for the Village People. This Saturday’s Championship ticker-tape parade down Christopher Street conclude at the Chelsea Outback Steakhouse at 5pm where the Metroleague’s Golden Boot and Best & Fairest will be announced.

Bronze Medal Game- Times Square Tourists vs Hudson River Rats

River Rats 11-2-68 defeated Tourists 6-0-36

The bronze medal game in the Outback Steakhouse Metroleague was the second game in the day’s schedule and saw the Hudson River Rats ahead by a kick at the main break against the men from 42nd Street.

A second quarter hit by Tourists muscleman Brett Prieur left Rats Kiwi Col Smart counting sheep and wondering which side of the Pacific he was on. Smart was heard on the bench asking Pies Coach Rob Oliver who his teammates were.

The boys from the West of the Hudson kicked six second half goals to seal a place on the Metroleague podium and leaving the Tourists with the wooden spoon for the second straight season.

Rats newbie William Singleton contributed two goals and first-gamer Matt Reilly also kicked one through the big sticks for the Double ‘R’s. Midfielder Tom Thompson showed why he’s an East all-star putting a career high four goals through the middle, and in his final game in the blue, Rats founder Sam Reid kicked truly for a final goodbye. For the Tourists, rookie Nick Curton and disgruntled former Rats John Woodbridge had three goals apiece.
