Outback Steakhouse – Metro League Round Two – April 17, 2004
Metro League Home, Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Finals Game 1 – Suburban Tollmen vs Village Bohemians This contest set a Metroleague record with both teams showing up with 11 fit men and started as a very intense affair with the men from the suburbs down by a kick at the main break. First year Tollmen Kim Laube showed Magpie team selectors why he should earn a game for the black and white, piling in a Metroleague Record six goals in his maiden outing. Rookies Derek Rogers and Jim Vanasek battled hard for the VB’s with Vanasek earning his second goal in two games. However, with the scores all tied up headed into the final quarter, Juice’s Team Ezpass raised the bar, piling on four fourth quarter goals and keeping Lewis and his Village People scoreless. Game 2 – Times Square Tourists vs Hudson River Rats A depleted Rats outfit showed up to the game Saturday featuring four first year players and a bald derelict from east of Bondi. With future HRR-Hall-of-Famer Sam Reid out of the country and Tom Thompson with a slight concussion, the Rats were left to compete against a strong Tourists outfit. Tourists Merchandising Director James Paterson took things to the next level in the pregame warm-ups, with the 42nd Streeters unvailing brand new performance apparel muscle shirts. The fans got a taste of ‘The Battle of the Bicep’ with oversized Rookie-Rat Adam Ribaudo taking on big Tourist Brett Prieur through the midfield. Rat newcomers Miftar Spahija and Mike Debeasi got plenty of touches and Debeasi kicked his first career goal for the double R’s. The Rats were ahead by two kicks at the main break, but in the third and fourth quarters were hit with an onslaught of goals from the camera bearing combination of John Woodbridge, Wayne Andrew and Nick Curton. The Tourists won the battle by two straight kicks and handed the Rats their first loss in over 20 months. In addition, the Metroleague Commissioners Office will review game tapes on Monday and will possibly suspend Locky Oliver and Eric Kallhovd after the field umpires had to overrule some very questionable decisions. With wins to both the Tollmen and Tourists over the weekend, the Outback Steakhouse Metroleague is anybodies game with all four teams tied on one win apiece and the 2004 winner is definitely harder to pick than a broken nose. Our May 8 regular season finale has turned into SUPER SATURDAY, with winners advancing to the Outback Steakhouse Metroleague Championship Game on May 15. |
