Game 1 – Hudson River Rats vs Suburban Tollmen
Rats 6-2-36 defeated the Tollmen 4-1-25

The Rats hope of a Outback Steakhouse Metroleague repeat came crashing back to reality when the Tollmen kicked off the game with a goal in the first 30 seconds. Tom Hayes answered on the quarter time siren with a 40 meter kick that dribbled through the middle.

On Thursday, Rats newcomer Mike Debeasi showed everybody why he’s a Preseason FTAS (First-Team-All-Spoon) and then backed it up with a great performance in the ruck in his maiden game as a Rat. His opponent in the ruck, rookie T-Men Dave Richie also showed why he is going to be a valuable player in the Ezpass Lane.

Juice showed why the Tollmen will be a force to be reckoned with this season, pinging three through the big sticks for his side. Rats stalwart Guy Luminato put in four for the reigning champions, including a sensational 3-bounce run from the backline that resulted in one though the middle. The double R’s founder and coach Sam Reid led the Rats to yet another win in his final and testimonial season with the franchise.

Game 2- Village Bohemians vs Times Square Tourists Bohemians 6-3-39 defeated Tourists 5-1-31

A very depleted Tourists side took to the field against the reigning runner-up led by c-c Doug Lewis. With a handful of helpers, the Tourists found themselves down by two goals at the main break.

The third quarter almost ended in a career-ending injury to Gary ‘China’ Lerch. China, not even playing in the game, almost found himself with a goal post permanently implanted through his scull while making some somewhat controversial goal umpiring decisions.

VB’s newcomer Michael Payne kicked truly on two occasions and was joined by Keith Davies who also had a pair. The highlight of the game was big man Jim Vanasek taking a bounce and kicking one through the big sticks for a goal in his rookie game for the Bohemians. And after Tourists Merchandising Director James Paterson went down with a bad knee, the Tourists had no shot at containing Lewis’ Village people.
