Match Report

The Magpies made the journey to the inaugural FastStream Florida Invitational at the brand new Broward Country Cricket complex in Laurderhill Florida on April 11th. The facilities were excellent and the ground was one of the best the Magpies have played on. The 85 degree heat was welcomed by the Magpies after a long winter.

The team had a successful start to the season winning 2 out of 3 games. Last seasons premiers Denver Colorado Bulldogs were the prize victim of the Magpies campaign, falling 1.2 (8) to 2.3 (15). A tightly contested battle against Washington/Baltimore saw the pies nudged out by one point which suggests that Eagles are the team to beat in the North East.

The result of the third match against host team Florida Redbacks (teamed with the Fort Lauderdale Fighting Squids) was a narrow victory by the pies.

Most Valuable Player for the tournament was awarded to Joel (Man Mountain) Keating who made a huge impact in all three matches. The fastest man over 70 meters was taken out by the Magpies Joey (Disco) Discepola.
