2005 New York Magpies Metro League Exhibition Game – August 13, 2005

PURPLE 13.0. 78 defeated GOLD 7.1. 43
Miller Field, Staten Island, NY

On a hot, humid, hot, humid, humid and humid day out on Staten Island an Exhibition Metro League game was held before a packed house.

The purple well coached by Andrew Bridges were ferocious at the footy, but the Gold worked their way back into the game leveling the scores at quarter time.

The second quarter saw the Purple starting to pull away with some good goals by Toby. Pistol Pete also snagged a couple for the Gold but they sill trailed by a couple of goals at the main break.

In a metro league first the 3rd and 4th quarters were reduced to 7 minutes a quarter with the heat obviously taking a toll on the boys. In the 3rd Quarter the Purple started to dominate around the ground and kicked 4 goals to 1 in the quarter.

The last quarter saw the boys slugging it out with the temperatures soaring to 106 degrees and coach Crighton looking for shade. The Gold stuck to their task well and kept the Purple to 2 goals as well as adding 2 themselves and having the opportunities to add a couple more which they couldn't quite convert. The final score saw the Purple 6 goal victors.

Thanks to all the boys who made up the Metro League game and then to put on a Magpies jersey to play against Philly … Fantastic Job boys.
