1.      AUSTRALIA DAY EVENT – THIS SATURDAY!!!

Saturday, January 28th at 9 PM at The Tonic Bar, 7th Avenue between 48th and 49th. Due to the huge number of guests at the 2005 event, we have secured the ENTIRE venue, more than doubling the capacity so that no one gets left out in 2006.

Please join us to celebrate with plenty of real Australia:  Bundaberg Rum, Meat Pies, Coopers and Tooheys Aussie beers, Aussie music, Aussie videos, Jacobs Creek Aussie wine, and more.  There will be a dance floor set up on the 2nd floor with a DJ so you can strut your stuff.

The Australian open should also be on live very late that night so feel free to stick around to watch on the numerous plasma screens.

Entry is only $10, which is all tax deductible since the Magpies are a qualified public charity.  A portion of the proceeds will be donated to another worthy charity as well.

Tickets are available at the door, there is no pre-sale of tickets to this event so get there early to join in the fun.

There will be heaps of FREE door prizes courtesy of Coopers Beer, Crumpler, Outback Steakhouse, and Jacob’s Creek winery.  To be eligible to receive door prizes remember to bring along a business card and drop it off at the entrance when you gain entry to the event or sign up at the door.

5.      AUSTRALIA WEEK IN LA SUMMARY

Four New York Magpies players, one umpire and one coach made the trip to The City of Angels, mainly for the Footy at the UCLA campus.  The North Melbourne Kangaroos defeated the Sydney Swans by a landslide and the Aussie all comers defeated the U.S. Revolution in the curtain raiser.  What a strange situation to witness in the U.S.:

·         Sold out footy crowd of mainly Aussies to see real AFL clubs on hand

·         Getting to train with these two clubs on the day before the game and speak to the players and coaches one on one, priceless

·         Staying in the same hotel with the North Melbourne club

·         Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter, live performance in the legendary Pauley Pavilion

·         Getting to spend time with AFL legend of the game, Ron Barassi

·         Meeting Sam Kekovich, what a character, and also Alan Aylett, who helped shape North Melbourne and the AFL

·         Seeing John Travolta kicking a footy at the game

·         A private INXS concert

·         Other celebs just hanging out at the game, Olivia Newton John, Hugh Jackman, Tom Arnold and the Best Damn Sports show crew, that bald dude from that Fox Prison Break Show

The highlights of the 2006 events are not on the official site yet, but you can see more at: http://australia-week.com/page/Home
