1. AUSTRALIA DAY EVENT

Saturday, January 28th at 9 PM at The Tonic Bar, 7th Avenue between 48th and 49th. Due to the huge number of guests at the 2005 event, we have secured the ENTIRE venue, more than doubling the capacity so that no one gets left out in 2006.

Please join us to celebrate with plenty of real Australia: Bundaberg Rum, Meat Pies, Coopers and Tooheys Aussie beers, Aussie music, Aussie videos, Jacobs Creek Aussie wine, and more. There will be a dance floor set up on the 2nd floor with a DJ so you can strut your stuff or at least attempt to.

The Australian Open should also be on live very late that night so stick around to watch on the numerous plasma screens.

Entry is only $10, which is all tax deductible since the Magpies are a qualified public charity. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to another worthy charity as well.

Tickets are available at the door, there is no pre-sale of tickets to this event so get there early to join in the fun.

There will be heaps of FREE door prizes courtesy of Coopers Beer, Crumpler, Outback Steakhouse, and Jacob’s Creek winery. To be eligible to receive door prizes remember to bring along a business card and drop it off at the entrance when you gain entry to the event or sign up at the door.

2. AUSTRALIANS COMPETE IN BASEBALL AND SOCCER?

Who knew, they play Baseball in Australia? And Soccer too? After dominating Cricket and Rugby on a global level, why not reach out?

The Aussies are competing in the first ever World Baseball Classic (World Cup of Baseball) made up of 16 teams from all over the globe.

Beginning March 7th in Orlando Florida, Australia will compete with the 3 teams in their pool, Italy (are you serious?), Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic. If they advance they will move on and potentially play in Puerto Rico and San Diego.

In the most popular World Cup in Sports, Soccer, Australia is faced with a rough draw with defending champions and perennial favorites Brazil, Japan, and Croatia. Their schedule on New York time is:

June 12th, Monday 9AM versus Japan

June 18th, Sunday 9AM versus Brazil

June 22nd, Thursday 3PM Croatia

Best bets to watch live are Eight Mile Creek and the Sunburnt Cow. We will revisit viewing locations as the tournament gets closer.
