Well the weather is once again looking terrific with the current forecast for almost 70 degrees and plenty of sun!!!!  We owe Mother Nature big-time…

This year’s annual ANZAC Day Party extravaganza will be held on Saturday the 23rd of April and promises to be bigger and better than ever! Considering that the 2004 event was “the best party ever” according to several guests.

Traditionally staged at Pier 63 and the Frying Pan dock, entry includes 2pm-6pm FREE open bar, plenty of Aussie beer (Coopers and Tooheys-New) and Australian wine on offer, authentic meat pies, and a FREE BBQ by Outback Steakhouse! All this while being entertained by an All Day Australian Music Showcase!!!…that guarantees to play all your Aussie classics plus live performances by Australian artists. In-fact, please submit any early special requests to and we’ll make sure you hear your favs. There are also dozens of great FREE door prizes and all day give-aways!!!

Just some of the planned entertainment:

2.      TEE SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST WINNER

And the winner is……………………………wait the phone numbers shown on TV were mixed up and we will need to hold a new vote in prime time on Fox.  No, this was not a ratings scam, we swear.

There have been no entries as of yet so we will go with a classic Tee shirt for now.  People are probably busy filing out there tax forms.  If you come up with an idea please submit it.

3.      AFL ON TV UPDATE

The goods news is that AFL games will air on television in the US, on what else, The Fox Soccer Channel.  The bad news is that the one game is still nearly a week delayed and airs at the very convenient time of 2 AM Eastern (NY) time on Fridays.  There will also be the weekly 1 hour highlights show airing at 2 AM on Saturdays.  Time to get Tivo or a Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

Apparently the games will be conformed by the Soccer channel to have players fake injuries as if they were shot dead, run around shirtless with their arms out like airplanes after goals, and blame the referees for all loses.

For those who have Time Warner Cable Fox Soccer Channel is likely channel 124.  More info can be obtained from http://www.afana.com/.

Fans of the Channel Nine Footy show can catch a glimpse of the craziness at:

My favorite is still Sam Newman’s Street Talk.

4.      AUSSIE FILMS AT TRIBECCA FILM FESTIVAL

The Magscene writer’s favorite actor Robert De Niro is at it again with the 4th annual film festival.  The 2005 festival includes 3 Australian Films, The Illustrated Family Doctor, House of Wax, and Marco Solo.  The festival runs from April 19 through May 1st and helps to revitalize lower Manhattan.

The films have very limited viewings so make sure you check the dates and get your tickets.

More can be found at http://www.tribecafilmfestival.org/ where you can sort the films by country, genre, etc.

You can also win FREE tickets at the Magpies ANZAC Day Event just by attending.  The tickets are just one of the dozens of FREE raffle prizes that will be given away to lucky guests.
